It's possible. MS spent $500 million on halo infinite, which is a massive amount for a game that hasn't been amazingly successful for that level of budget. On the other hand, halo is halo and has a huge following, sort of like pokemon for Nintendo.

$400 million for a game that didn't even release, that's insane. Probably the reason the ps5 is still selling at full price 4 years post launch. Think about it....would you buy any other electronic device for full price 4 years post launch? Phone, laptop, video card??

Sounds like bullshit. Even the $200m figure was believable only if you counted the projected costs for updates and support for the game for the first few years of it's release - remember, the plan was to release new cinematic story clips every other week or something.

It's like Destiny costing $500m, but only because it was the projected investments for the 10 years of the game's life.

Cause it is. The hate train for the game is the cause for such silly rumors.

I'm pretty sure a lot of this money was spent on the time machine that allowed a six year old studio to spend eight years developing the game.

Not even Atari's ET lost this much money.

Should have used that money to buy more shares in Epic Games.

This reads like pure bs imo, I mean just the part about a new studio without any publisher backing apparently spends 200 million $ on their first game?? I mean how would they even get access to these kind of money??

From here. Prbably Monsters raised 250m, then sold to Sony........who poured in another 200m

Just thought I'd help, seems people are bending over backwards looking for excuses for this not to be true.

This is really not how business works unless funny business is going on. Was everyone at the studio making $250,000 a year with bonuses? This doesn't make sense

There is more to development costs than salaries, but the salaries here were likely quite high too. Since there was a lot of veterans on the team.

So "revealed" is the same as "shady information from unrealiable source" nowadays?

I very highly doubt the game cost that much. There are no famous voice actors or amazing setpieces to justify that kind of budget

A budget bigger than TLoU2 or Spider-Man 2? Where? How? Get the f outta here. There was barely no marketing for it either so it cant be that also.

Non Sony fanboys obviously already made up their minds and will definitely believe this as official information. Me, an actual rational person, am gonna call bullsh*t on that. Sony definitely lost a lot of money with the game, no doubt, but 400 Million? Naaaahhh

Nahh, most people are looking for reasons how all of this could be true. It reeks of bullshit and doesn't make any sense.

He asked where a small studio would get the funds.

Probably Monsters has only been able to get Firewalk going.

Cauldron had their game cancelled, Team RPG has never left the planning phase.

Yeah, 400 million seems unlikely even given my most liberal estimates. My most liberal estimates put the game's salaried costs at around 200 million. But it was likely only around 100-150m, with a few million spent on things like maintainance, infrastructure, marketing, voice acting and so on.

The remaining 200m was likely budgeted for future content for the game

The game was allegedly in development for 8 years, had 170 staff members, because of the veterency of a lot of its staff, I assume a salary of 150,000 which is slightly above the median for software engineers in Bellevue, Washington. This 200 million makes a lot of assumptions, such as assumign they had a crew size of 170 from day 1.

And they're still trying to figure out how to get any kind of ROI, kind of pointless now. Just put it on PS Plus already.

400M sounds like they were trying to build an engine or framework for other similar projects.

It was Concord's destiny to fail (pun intended). It shares the same name as the Concorde airplane. That plane was pulled from the market when Air France Flight 4590 crashed shortly after launch. Same thing happened to the game. It crashed shortly after launch and was pulled from the market.

History repeating itself.

I feel like Firewalk may be shut down after this fiasco.

I see Sony invested the 2nd $200 million, but did them or Firewalk put up the first $200 million? It says Sony was always part of the development.

Either way, this was a huge failure.

Imagine how many hungry kids could have gotten a regular breakfast every morning before starting their school day? I know they were trying to make a profit trying to make their game successful but if there was doubt about the outcome of the game in the future then maybe they should have pulled the plug? Maybe I’m just being clueless? Just my thoughts.

Yeah, I call bullsh*t on it. 400M doesn't seems real, even 200M would be stretching it a bit.

Maybe they were making Concord 1&2 at the same time? The industry often does this when they start up a major franchise: ie. the sequel was already in the works.

Yes, GamesWorkshop is infested too. 40k fans are well aware of that. Luckily, the infestation isn't as widespread... yet.

Notice how they make the space marine a manlet but have Anita gigachad looking down on him like a Resetera user who caught you misusing a pronoun.

Propaganda. Forced.
