Dragon Age 6 hour Hands-on Preview - Skill Up

Just dropped 20 minutes ago..... Game is shaping up to be better than expected from that first preview it seems.... I'm excited for it. It'll also be steam deck verified from what I've heard!

Dragon age meets God of War? Does this make you more or less excited?

GameSpot has a preview on the front page as well. Just checked it out and sounds quite promising. Am certainly interested in the game myself.

Nope, the saying goes "don't judge a book by its cover" and that's all people do these days.

So many people can't play Outlaws because they can't get over how Kay Vess looks. How big of an aspect are a characters looks in these big games? 1%? Less?

Kay Vess from Outlaws was created for that purpose but hey, the game itself was more important so I did enjoy what I got out of it.

I stay away from that crap as much as possible... When people complain about culture war topica it wreaks of fear.

Strong independent minded people find nothing of value from the sources that have taken the brains of so many in the culture wars.

Very good video (Skillup usually does quality stuff)! I thought the combat looked a bit meh, but now I feel a lot less confident about that. SkillUp explained the system very well. The way combos work sounds pretty cool. This video def made me more optimistic!

Yep I find skill up to offer solid perspectives. Even when they have an opinion off the mainstream opinion it's usually supported.

sounds like they are going for a sort of Mass Effect in the Dragon Age universe type of deal with the combat and really making it more of a action RPG.

i'm fine with that if they pull it off. I think the biggest question I still have is around the quality if writing/characters.

I have always loved real time combat with the pause-power selection... A la mass effect. It allows for the second to second thrill and also the strstegizing piece as well.

Hope the story/characters are good too...

I am looking forward to this game.

That Outlaws games gameplay super bland and bad tho.

Granted, star wars game without light sabers or mind powers.

But let's not pretend Outlaws is some super good game that people aren't giving it a chance because ugly woman. The game doesn't look appealing gameplay wise either.. I guess gamespot gave it a 7..

For a game with this type of budget and asking for AAA $70.. that's bad

Previews are better than I was expecting, so that's good to know. I'm still not thrilled about it. Their track record since ME3 isn't the best.

Wth does that mean? Will the camera be zoomed in on your character's shoulder, will there be puzzles that the game solves for you, will there be hours of walking slowly while characters are talking, will you press X to be awesome?

Not sure what it means outside the context of the video. He makes his case that it feels more like God of War... I really liked GoW, guess we have to see whether it translates to dragon age?

I really hope this is a return to form for bioware, or at least a new beginning.

The dialogue wheel and over teh shoulder camera ensure I wont get it, but it does look better than the previous 2 Dragon Age games at least.

God of War is one of my least favorite games ever, so I hope not. lol

Not at all. Brushed it off as yet another miss from BioWare. It's just now that people are like "hm, this might actually be way better than before" that I picked up some interest.

I still want to get the game, but I dont understand why everything has to be so samey with the combat these days. How many hack n slash games do we need?

After hearing Veilguard will have "Top Surgery Scars" how does this make sense in a Medieval Fantasy game? Is technologically impossible now? Not a Concord-level disaster I'm expecting but this ain't gonna end well for Veilguard. At least I'll sub to PlayPro so I can field test this game. I understand this is "optional" but this isn't how it should be done.

Do I want a new Mass Effect game? Let's see how Veilguard does first and we'll see.

Literally anything can "make sense" in a Medieval Fantasy game. We have time travel, robots, multi-universe among other things. Have you forgotten about the jumps made in many medieval fantasy games?

Surgery is pretty much as old as recorded history itself

Given that healing magic exists, I think top surgeries are entirely feasible in the world of Dragon Age.

People are complaining about having the option to put a “top surgery scar” on your character in the character creation? Really?

If you don’t want that, for whatever reason, then you know you have the option to not put it on the character. Right? Good grief people. Come on now. 🤦‍♂️

Agreed! It’s a pleasure to just listen to how well he articulates his thoughts! Reminds me of Totalbiscuit. To me those two are/were outstanding when it comes to critique. Sadly TB left us too soon.

I am excited, since DA 1 & 2 are some of my favorite games. but I have my doubts about the combat system here. I would like something similar to DA Origins, but I know I won't get that.

My only issue with this is, why not just change the name to something more fantasy name? Like I said, I'm not dismissing this game, I'll play it but my expectations are low.

This game will be a financial flop and ill be here to tell you " I told you so".

I look forward to the cope and damage control from our usual suspects.

Considering this is the character creator, something the average player will only see once or twice, if at all, per play-through, the devs might be prioritising feature set over immersion. It's why they tend to have very minimalistic UI art, for example.
