New Slim PlayStation 5 Models Announced, All-Digital Sees $50 Price Increase
The PS5 went on a diet just in time for the holidays.
A new PlayStation 5 model will hit shelves just in time for the holiday season, and this new format will take up less space on the shelf while offering more space for your data beginning in November.
The slimmed-down console will affect both existing models of the PS5--the all-digital version and the version with the disc drive--when they launch. The new PS5s have been "reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models," according to the official PlayStation Blog post, and both will offer a 1TB SSD for increased storage.
The new slim PS5 with the disc drive will cost the same as the current version at $499, while the all-digital version will see a $50 price increase to $449. The blog post also confirms that once current stock has been sold through, this new slim PS5 will be the only option available for purchase.
Those who purchase the all-digital version of this slim PS5 will also have the option to purchase a separate Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for $70, while both models will also support a horizontal stand for those who prefer to lay their consoles down, and the stand will be sold separately for $30. The all-digital slim PS5 still works exactly the same as its disc-based counterpart, only now it also supports the external drive.
