Be sure to also check out the CoD Season 6 patch notes for details on everything changing, as well as a look at the Season 6 battle pass.
Call of Duty Season 6 release date and start times
Activision has confirmed Season 6's release date as Wednesday, September 18. The update goes live at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST across all platforms.
What to expect from Season 6
Season 6 battle pass
A new season of Call of Duty means a brand-new battle pass is on the way. The battle pass includes two new weapons in the free tiers. The DTIR 30-06 battle rifle is unlocked in Sector 6, and the Kastov LSW is unlocked in Sector 9.
This season is themed around Call of Duty's annual Halloween-themed event called The Haunting. This event brings nighttime map variants, zombies-themed game modes, and plenty of operator skins.
Several spooky operator skins are arriving for The Haunting event, including the return of Michael Myers, who was first featured in DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts.
Here are the horror-themed operator skins confirmed:
- Michael Myers
- Sam from Trick 'R Treat
- Art the clown from the Terrifier movies
- Simon "Ghost" Riley as a three-headed abomination
- Makarov sporting a terrifying grin that looks related to the Smile movie
- Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead
- Bubby the mascot from Call of Duty's fictional Burger Town
Michael Myers and Bubby are in the standard battle pass, while Ghost's three-headed mutation skin is the new BlackCell operator. The other characters will be available to purchase as shop bundles.
Additionally, Season 6 will include new weekly challenges, aftermarket parts, seasonal challenges, and more.
Season 6 events
Several limited-time events are announced for Season 6.
- The Haunting Halloween event runs from September 18-October 16. This will likely include Halloween-themed challenges and free rewards.
- The Walking Dead: Road to Terminus event runs from September 25 - October 2. This is one of Call of Duty's XP events for earning new rewards, and players can earn an additional XP boost by purchasing and equipping the Daryl Dixon operator.
- Candy Hunt is a Trick 'r Treat movie-themed event that takes place from October 2-16. Collecting candy will unlock new rewards.
- Purgatory Island is a Warzone-exclusive event. It runs from September 25 - October 16, and players can complete challenges for rewards.
- MWIII Rewind is an event that runs from October 9-16, and is vaguely described as taking "a walk down memory lane and completing challenges to earn rewards."
Season 6 in Modern Warfare 3
Five MW3 multiplayer maps are arriving in Season 6, but only one is brand-new. Drive Thru is an original 6v6 map with a spooky nighttime setting at a killer clown-themed restaurant. Mad Cow is a variant of Meat, which turns the small map into a flooded slaughterhouse. The other five maps coming to Season 6 are all variants of Shipment.
A few limited-time modes return for The Haunting event. This includes Hordepoint, Mutation, and Infected. Another season of the Ranked Play competitive mode will arrive with new rewards to earn.
Lastly, the developer is celebrating the final season of MW3 Zombies by offering two special benefits to players. Anyone will be able to access Dark Aether rift runs for free (assuming they've completed the initial mission that unlocks them) without the need to use a Sigil token. Additionally, all schematics will cooldown twice as quickly.
Season 6 in Warzone
Season 6's content in Warzone is focused on small maps and Resurgence modes. The nighttime variant of the Vondel map returns. This map will include Warzone's Zombie Royale mode.
Rebirth Island gets a demonic map variant called Hellspawn, which features an evening setting with tentacles, flesh-covered walls, bloody water, and more. This will include the Zombie Royale mode and the new Purgatory mode.
Purgatory is described as a new squad-based mode that features a sandbox-style setting, where squads can battle and complete objectives at their own pace. Custom loadouts are always available and all players receive infinite respawns. The mode also includes new mechanics, such as portals, power-ups, and safe zones. The Shipment multiplayer map is also added as a floating island, which sounds much like Fortnite's floating Loot Island except it's also described as "driveable."
Oddly, nothing is announced for Warzone's Urzikstan map. Ranked Play will remain as a Resurgence mode on Rebirth Island for Season 6.
Season 6 in Warzone Mobile
Warzone Mobile continues to share a battle pass and progression with MW3 and Warzone, so players can expect to unlock the same DLC weapons and aftermarket parts on the mobile version.
The remastered version of Hardhat from the original MW3 is arriving to Warzone Mobile's selection of multiplayer maps. Zombie Royale will also be featured in this version of Warzone.
Season 6 includes four seasonal events exclusive to Warzone Mobile, and there will be shop updates as well.
With Season 6 starting mid-September, it looks to overlap and continue past the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on October 25. Here is everything announced for Black Ops 6, including campaign details, Zombies, and Warzone integration with the new Area 99 map.
