PS5 Pro Disc Drive - Best Buy Restocks The Hard-To-Find Accessory

The existing PS5 Disc Drive works with the upcoming PS5 Pro. It quickly sold out when the console was announced, but now you have another chance to snag one.

The upcoming PS5 Pro has a number of improvements over the original, including a GPU with up to 45% faster rendering, AI-driven upscaling, advanced ray tracing, and a 2TB SSD. But all of the games you install will need to be purchased from the PlayStation Store--unless you buy a separate accessory. The PS5 Pro does not have a disc drive, so you'll want to buy the official PS5 Disc Drive if you have a collection of physical games you want to play. The $80 Disc Drive attachment quickly sold out when the PS5 Pro was first revealed, but now it's back in stock at Best Buy as of September 19.

With the PS5 Pro arriving on November 7, the disc drive attachment is bound to be more popular than usual. In fact, it has already sold out at multiple retailers, and we'd expect other retailers like Walmart and Target to sell out soon. The disc drive could be hard to find when PS5 Pro preorders open at PlayStation Direct on September 26. Major retailers will open preorders for the console on October 10.

If you’re looking to get the most powerful console on the market, the PS5 Pro, on paper, is clearly that. With an upgraded GPU, enhanced ray tracing that works at double the speed of the current PS5, and AI upscaling for better image clarity, it’s a fairly substantial leap forward from a technical perspective.

The primary downside is price, as $700 is a big ask. And since it doesn’t include a disc drive, many existing PS5 players will find the true cost to be $780.
