@uninspiredcup: it's very good.
right now, i can't decide which is my personal goty from wukong or shadow of the erdtree which is saying a lot given i'm a big elden ring fanboy.
it's got the underlying essence of nioh and fromsoft games but with enough of a twist on the variables to feel like it's its own game and not a wannabe, particularly with the chinese mythology theme which helps it feel fresh and interesting.
combat is a lot of fun. layered, challenging and with depth but more accessible and constrained than nioh and souls games, which isn't a bad thing. you don't lose sparks, (wukong's equivalent of souls / runes etc), upon death. there's a decent but limited number of very cool / effective spells, stances and attributes to put points into but the game allows you to re-spec whenever you want and do it point by point, meaning you can do a lot of experimenting with builds and strategically redistribute points into different skill trees based on what works for you best, or if you find yourself in scenarios where a very particular set of skills </neeson> are more effective.
the game world grows increasingly open whilst ultimately staying linear, with lots to explore and plenty of rewards for doing so. like fromsoft games, a lot of the secrets are npc led. similarly the game has no explicit mission or quests and is very story-lite, plot delivered by lore rather than lengthy narration and cinematics, so none of that god of war repeatedly interrupted or forced walking style, none of those god of war kind of puzzles either.
i'm enjoying it a lot, it's took me by surprise
