The Casting of Frank Stone has 14 chapters of varying lengths. In several of these, characters will face grave dangers, which can lead to their doom if you make the wrong move. However, there are key decisions and actions which ensure that the heroes make it through the night. Here's our guide on how to save all characters in The Casting of Frank Stone. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.
How to save all characters in The Casting of Frank Stone - Everyone Survives walkthrough
Our The Casting of Frank Stone Everyone Survives guide is organized per chapter. We won't list all the conversation replies or quick-time events (QTEs) that you'll encounter, but we'll take note of the most important ones that relate to a character's survival. We also won't list all the collectibles in the game, though you can read more about them in our Trinkets guide, Relliks guide, and Artifacts guide. Likewise, for those who want characters to meet their doom, we've also got an Everyone Dies walkthrough.
Moreover, we encourage you to use the Cutting Room Floor feature, which is unlocked after beating the game or right from the start if you own the Deluxe edition. This allows you to replay certain moments to discover other branching paths.
Lastly, PC players can make backup saves, which are found in: \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\ TheCastingofFrankStone\Saved\SaveGames. Be forewarned, however, overwriting files with older ones affect Cutting Room Floor branches that you've unlocked.
Chapter 1: The Burning Maw (Sam)
To be frank (pun intended), the first chapter serves as a prologue to the bigger narrative arc that ties together the rest of the game. Here are the most notable moments:
- Pass the QTE sequence to free Sam from the hook. This will prevent him from being permanently injured.
- Pass the next sequences as Sam grabs his gun. He will automatically shoot Frank in the head to save the baby.
Chapter 2: In the House of Darkness (Madison)
As far as we can tell, nothing major happens here. So, just make sure you pull over to help the hitchhiker (Linda), and then ask her about her work.
Chapter 3: A Curiosity on Main Street (Chris)
Similar to the above, this one just serves to introduce you to the rest of the characters. You can choose to go to the Pharmacy first or the Curiosity Shop.
Chapter 4: Gerant Manor (Linda)
There are no character deaths that we know of in this particular section.
Chapter 5: The Phantom of Cedar Steel (Jaime)
Finally, things start to pick up in this chapter when Jaime, Chris, and Robert discover Frank's lair. Once you jump out of the shed, you need to make a few decisions regarding your relationship with Chris. Then, a cutscene will play, and the next part is important if you want to save all characters in The Casting of Frank Stone.
A portal will open and pull Chris through the doorway. However, Frank Stone, who's slowly materializing before your eyes, blocks your path. You have two choices:
- Flee - Jaime will run away and survive, though Chris won't like it later on. We suggest picking this option on your first playthrough.
- Confront - Frank will gut Jaime in half. Note that there seems to be a way to ensure that Jaime can still survive this part, though we haven't discovered it yet.
Chapter 6: Beyond the Gate (Linda)
The goal here is to solve a puzzle to open the metal gate. Here's a quick summary:
- Check the library upstairs and pick up the key. Then, use it to unlock the diorama box in the atrium.
- Head downstairs and pick up the tree figurine so you can place it in the diorama.
- Take the miniature hammer and place it in the statue's hand. This gives you a canister that can be placed in the metal gate's lock.
- The lock combination is: House -> Tree -> Hammer.
Inside the repository, you'll get to see Augustine's collection of cursed objects, which should be a treat for fans of Dead By Daylight. There are no character deaths to worry about here.
Chapter 7: A Perilous Place (Linda)
As Linda, you'll finally be able to use the "Cursed Camera" as we like to call it. You have a couple of goals here:
- Fight off Frank Stone - Whenever you see the camera icon in the lower-left corner of your screen, press the button prompt to use it. Press and hold the "shoot" button to weaken Frank, and press the "rewind" button before the gauge is depleted. Frank will appear a couple of times, so be ready for these moments.
- Repair the generator - Look for the parts that are needed, then start the generator minigame. You need to press the corresponding button while the arrow is at or near the "sweet spot." If you press it at the wrong time, you'll lose progress.
If you manage to fight off Frank and repair the generator, you'll make it out of the Wagon Shed without any issues. This is the ideal outcome if you want all characters to survive in The Casting of Frank Stone.
However, if you fail at either of these, Frank will slam Linda on a hook. This will affect the branching path that you get in Chapter 9.
Chapter 8: Mystery Manor (Madison)
You'll have to solve the Horologium Dial puzzle, which is actually fairly easy. All you need to do is rotate the dials so that the glowing lines form a matching pattern that radiates outward. Do this several times as you pull the lever, then hit the switch to complete this portion. A certain character will show up here, too.
Note that failing to complete the puzzle or activate the switch will cause Madison's early death. We definitely don't want this to happen.
Chapter 8: Mystery Manor (Linda)
The second part has you playing as Linda, and you confront Sam. As far as we can tell, this only affects a particular dialogue or minor branching point, and it's not related to a character's survival.
Chapter 9: Descent of the Damned (Linda)
You'll get this chapter if you scared off Frank and repaired the generator in Chapter 7. Linda will be able to make her way through the storm drain, eventually discovering Frank's lair. There are no possible character deaths here, at least concerning this particular branch.
Chapter 10: In the House of Madness (Chris)
Remember Chris getting sucked into the portal? Well, she's now in Madison's 2024 timeline. There are several branching paths here, and a couple of potential deaths. To avoid any issues, simply choose the "Hopeful" reply, with Chris electing to return to her 1980 timeline. There's a QTE here where you have to grab a metal lever, so make sure you successfully pass that, too.
Chapter 11: All Paths Must Cross (Chris)
This is actually one of the shortest chapters in the game, since Chris will just end up back at Cedar Mill. Assuming you've found all the collectibles in an earlier chapter, there's nothing to do here except make your way to the exit.
Chapter 12: Closing the Noose (Madison)
The only notable choice that we had to make here concerns the talisman--given that talismans are said to have protective properties. We chose the "Indifferent" reply, and we gave it to Stan. However, we're not exactly sure if this would help him later on.
Chapter 13: Murder Mill (Linda)
And here we go: It's the first finale where so many deaths can occur. Pay close attention if you want to keep characters alive in The Casting of Frank Stone.
- Chris: Early in this chapter, Chris will fall to the ground. When you see the camera prompt as Linda, use it to scare away Frank. Otherwise, he'll stomp on Chris's head.
- Bonnie: Frank will kill Bonnie. This seems to be an unavoidable outcome regardless of your decisions or actions.
Chapter 13: Murder Mill (Sam with Jaime and Chris)
Next, you'll play as Sam, who's back in the storm drain. Here's what you need to know:
- Frank will attempt to attack you twice. When you see the camera icon in the lower-left corner of the screen, use the Cursed Camera to fend him off. Failure to do so will lead to Sam's death.
- After you encounter Frank for the first time, you'll see a ledge to your right. Mantle over it to get the Spirit doll and, past that point, you'll see Jaime lying in a corner. As soon as the camera prompt appears, use it to fight Frank. It's possible that Frank's model would be hardly visible here, so just aim at the center of the corridor while shooting.
- In the next area, there's a section where you'll be able to squeeze through. If Linda managed to save Chris earlier, you'll find her hiding in this room.
- As you head further down, the camera prompt will appear again. This will be your second encounter against Frank in the storm drain, so make sure you scare him away.
Chapter 13: Murder Mill (Sam versus Frank)
At the very end of this underground lair, you'll see a door that leads to an inner chamber. That's where you'll find Linda battered and wounded. This has several "Cursed Camera" minigames and QTEs, so be ready. If you fail, either Sam or Linda can die, and Robert will be the one to finish off Frank.
If you succeed, though, then you've ensured that everyone in the 1980 arc survives... well, except Bonnie, though that seems to be unavoidable anyway for plot reasons.
Chapter 14: The Massacre at Gerant Manor (Sam and Stan)
Back in 2024, Frank will emerge from the projector screen, and he'll end up grabbing Stan. Here's what we did:
- We failed the QTE here.
- When prompted to "Back Away" or "Sacrifice Yourself," we chose to back away and not save Stan at all.
Note: During our playthrough, we thought that the talisman would protect Stan, but that wasn't the case as he still got gobbled up. To double-check, we replayed this part to save him. However, the next person that Frank grabbed was Linda. We ended up with a choice that led to either Linda's or Sam's death. So, it seems that Stan really has to be sacrificed here.
However, at the very end, well past this point, we still received the "Entity Displeased" Achievement, which is only rewarded if all characters survived in The Casting of Frank Stone. At a glance, it seems that Stan's death has no bearing on the achievement at all, though we're still looking to confirm this tidbit.
Chapter 14: The Massacre at Gerant Manor (Linda and Madison)
Next up, you get to control Linda. Again, there are some tasks here that you need to be mindful of just so characters live in The Casting of Frank Stone. Here's a quick summary:
- Pick up the parts and successfully repair the generator. Failure to do so leads to Linda's death.
- At the hallway, choose to save Madison from Frank. Stan, who was consumed earlier, will "rebel" inside Frank's body, allowing the two women to escape.
- If Linda goes for the elevator instead of saving Madison, she'll just get decapitated. Madison, meanwhile, will get captured, and she'll be sacrificed to the Entity in a later scene. We definitely don't want either of these outcomes to happen.
Chapter 14: The Massacre at Gerant Manor (Madison and Sam)
When you're able to play as Madison, you'll come across Augustine at the Horologium. After the conversation, choose the "Furious" reply. Do not pick the "Uncertain" reply or that might cause some problems.
Next, be ready for several QTE sequences that you need to successfully pass, including a button-mashing section to open a door. Eventually, you'll run into Sam again. You're given the choice to "Flee" or "Try to Help." Choose to run away; trying to help Sam will just get Madison killed.
Then, as Sam, you need to pass all QTE sequences as you run away from Frank. Failure leads to Sam's death in another scene; success would mean his survival.
Chapter 14: The Massacre at Gerant Manor (Madison and the ending)
Finally, we've reached the last portion of the game. Assuming all playable characters remained alive, then you get to control Madison here. Collect a couple of secrets, learn about what happened in the 1980 arc, and walk to the clearing for a neat moment.
That does it for our The Casting of Frank Stone Everyone Survives walkthrough. With all playable characters alive, you should get the "Entity Displeased" achievement, too.
For those who want to see these folks meet an untimely demise, you can check our Character Deaths/Everyone Dies walkthrough. That should help you get the "Merciless Killer" achievement.
